Seasonal tire storage in Canada
Seasonal tire storage keeps your off-season set somewhere other than your garage or balcony, usually for $60 to $100 a season for a set of four, according to prices Cansumer collected from Canadian shops. Costco installs and maintains tires bought from it, but the Tire Centre services it lists don't include seasonal storage, so ask your Tire Centre, or use an independent local business that stores tires. Flatcart is launching independent local help in BC, Alberta and Ontario, and requests are free.

How much does tire storage cost in Canada?
Prices Cansumer collected from Canadian shops, for one set of four for a season (the page is undated, and prices vary by shop and city):
| Who | Per season |
|---|---|
| Storage company, Brampton | $40 |
| Independent shop, Nepean | $60 |
| Canadian Tire, Ottawa | $70 |
| Tire shop, Markham | $75 |
| Shop, Waterloo | $80 |
| Kal Tire, Winnipeg | $90 to 100 |
| Dealership | $100 |
A season is roughly 6 to 9 months, so most people pay twice a year. Cansumer found dealerships and large chains charge more than independent shops and storage companies.
Does Costco store tires?
Not as a listed service. Costco installs tires bought from it at no charge, then rotates, balances and repairs them for their life, with a 5-year road hazard warranty; see what the Costco Tire Centre includes. Seasonal storage isn't on that list, so ask your Tire Centre; otherwise a local storage business can keep the set.
When should you book tire storage?
With your changeover. Swap when temperatures stay below 7°C, usually in October or November (Cansumer), and Quebec requires them from December 1 to March 15; see when you need winter tires. Book the storage when you book the Costco appointment, so the summer set has somewhere to go the same day.
What should you check before you store tires?
- On or off rims: say which, since it changes the price and how they're stored.
- Inspection: ask whether they check tread and damage when the tires come in, and note the tread yourself.
- Indoors and labelled: tires keep best indoors, away from heat and sunlight; ask for a tag with your name and which wheel each tire came off.
- Insurance: ask whether your tires are covered if the storage is damaged or broken into.
- Pickup and delivery: some businesses bring the set to your door, or straight to your Costco Tire Centre appointment.
Every provider on Flatcart is independent. Badges such as Insured appear only after we have seen proof, and you agree the price with the provider directly. Don't want to wait at the Tire Centre either? A local driver can take your car to the appointment and bring it back.
