Renew Costco membership in Canada: online, auto-renew, cancelling and refunds

To renew Costco membership in Canada, sign in on Costco.ca and choose Renew, visit any warehouse membership counter, or call Member Services. A renewal costs $65 for Gold Star or Business and $130 for Executive, and you keep your current card. Our advice: turn on auto-renew if you shop at Costco every year, because you can still cancel later for a full refund.

How do you renew a Costco membership?

Costco offers 4 ways:

1. Online: sign in to Costco.ca, open your account, choose Renew and pay with Mastercard or Visa.

2. In the warehouse: any membership counter.

3. By phone: Costco Member Services, listed on customerservice.costco.ca.

4. Online banking: add "Costco Membership Renewal Fee" as a bill payee with your bank.

Costco does not mail a new card each year; keep using your current card once you have renewed. The free household card for someone over 16 at your address renews with yours.

Is there a Costco renewal promo code or coupon?

Costco does not publish promo codes for renewals; its renewal offers have been tied to auto-renew instead. The most recent ran from September 28 to October 16, 2026 and has ended: members who turned on auto-renew for the first time in that window got a $25 online voucher by email, good for one Costco.ca order until November 22, 2026. No new auto-renew offer had been announced as of October 17, 2026. You can also pay a renewal with a Costco Shop Card.

How does Costco auto-renew work?

Auto-renew charges your Mastercard or Visa at the beginning of your renewal month, around the first or second day. Set it up on Costco.ca under Renew Membership (tick "Use card for auto renew") or at a membership counter. Changes take up to 2 days to process and must be made more than 3 days before the first day of your renewal month, so change your card or turn auto-renew off before then.

What happens if you renew your Costco membership late?

It depends on how late. If you renew within 2 months after your membership expires, the new year runs 12 months from your old expiry date, so waiting doesn't save you anything. If you renew more than 2 months late, the new year runs 12 months from the day you renew.

How do you cancel a Costco membership?

The primary member cancels in person: speak with a team member at any Costco membership counter and you get your refund there. Costco's help page names no online cancellation. Cancelling the primary membership also ends the household and affiliate cards on it.

Can you get a refund on a Costco membership?

Yes. Costco's membership guarantee says it will cancel and refund your membership fee at any time if you are dissatisfied: $65 for Gold Star, $130 for Executive. One catch for Executive members: if you cancel, or downgrade to Gold Star or Business and get a refund, you give up the 2% reward for that year.

Should you downgrade from Executive instead of cancelling?

If you still shop at Costco, yes. Executive costs $65 more than Gold Star and pays it back once you spend about $3,250 a year on eligible purchases; below that, Gold Star is cheaper.
