Costco gold in Canada means 1 oz bars from PAMP Suisse, Valcambi and the Royal Canadian Mint, Maple Leaf coins, smaller bars from 10 g, and silver bars and coins, sold online and at some warehouses. In April 2026 Western Canadian warehouses listed the 1 oz bars at $6,669.99, limited to 2 per member every 4 days, with no returns. On October 15, 2026, gold traded at C$5,903.98 an ounce (Kitco), so check that day's spot price before you buy: the gap is what you pay Costco.

Does Costco sell gold in Canada?
Yes. Costco Canada listed its first 1 oz PAMP Suisse gold bar on Costco.ca in September 2023, for members only, and Global News reported it wasn't available in Manitoba. By February 2024 Western Canadian warehouses had 1 oz gold bars and 10 oz silver bars on shelves, and in September 2024 the Royal Canadian Mint launched a 1 oz Maple Leaf coin "available at select Costco stores across Canada".
The range a Costco West fan blog photographed in April 2026:
- Gold bars: Royal Canadian Mint 10 g, 50 g and 100 g; PAMP 0.5 oz, 1 oz, 50 g and 100 g; Valcambi 10 g, 20 g and 1 oz
- Gold coins: Maple Leaf 1/4 oz and 1 oz, and a 25 x 1 g Maplegram
- Silver: Royal Canadian Mint 10 oz and 100 oz bars, tubes of 25 x 1 oz coins, Sunshine Mint bars
Not every warehouse carries it, and stock changes week to week. Any paid membership can buy; we found no Canadian rule limiting gold to Executive members.
How much is gold at Costco Canada?
Costco's price follows the gold market, so it moves with it. Here is the 1 oz price on shelf tags in Western Canadian warehouses, as transcribed by the Costco West fan blog, and the 2023 online launch:
| Date | Item | Price |
|---|---|---|
| September 2023 | PAMP 1 oz bar (Costco.ca launch) | $2,679.99 |
| February 2024 | PAMP 1 oz bar | $2,839.99 |
| March 2025 | Royal Canadian Mint 1 oz bar | $4,289.99 |
| November 2025 | PAMP 1 oz bar | $5,869.99 |
| April 2026 | PAMP or Valcambi 1 oz bar, or 1 oz Maple Leaf coin | $6,669.99 |
Smaller sizes cost more per gram: in April 2026 a Royal Canadian Mint 10 g bar was $2,159.99, which works out to about $6,718 an ounce, against $6,669.99 for a 1 oz bar. Silver was cheaper per piece: a tube of 25 x 1 oz 2026 silver coins was $2,739.99.
Is Costco gold a good deal?
It's a fair price, not a bargain. The test is the premium: how much the price sits above the spot price of gold that day. When Costco launched in 2023, Global News compared its $2,679.99 bar with a market price of about $2,552.54 an ounce, a premium of about 5%, and a hair above TD's price of $2,679.21.
The premium matters because you lose it when you sell, and a dealer pays you below spot. Example only: buy at 5% over spot, sell at 3% under, and gold has to rise about 8% before you break even.
| Step | Per ounce, at a spot price of $5,904 |
|---|---|
| Buy at 5% over spot | $6,199 |
| Sell at 3% under spot the same day | $5,727 |
| Lost on the round trip | $472 |
So Costco gold suits someone holding for years who wants a known brand with no shipping. It's a poor way to trade. Compare the price with a Canadian dealer and your bank on the same day, and remember the Costco card cash back can trim the premium.
How many gold bars can you buy at Costco?
Usually 2 per member in a set window. The 2023 online launch allowed 2 every 7 days; Western Canadian shelf tags have read "limit of 2 per 7 days" and, from late 2025, "2 per 4 days" for gold. Silver has been limited to 5 per 4 days (5 per 7 days in 2024). Limits are per membership and can change without notice.
Can you return gold to Costco or get a price adjustment?
No to both. Costco's return policy lists gold bullion and gold and silver bars and coins as exceptions to its satisfaction guarantee, and every gold and silver shelf tag the Costco West blog photographed from 2024 to 2026 reads "no returns". Gold and silver bars and bullion are also excluded from Costco's 30-day price adjustment, so if the price drops the day after you buy, you keep the loss. See what else you can't return.
What's the best way to pay for gold at Costco?
Canadian warehouses take Mastercard, debit, cash and Costco Shop Cards, not Visa; Costco.ca also takes Visa. On $6,670, the CIBC Costco Mastercard would pay $67 at 1% in the warehouse, or $133 at 2% on Costco.ca, if the purchase earns the standard rate. We found no Canadian source confirming whether bullion earns card rewards or the Executive 2% reward; Costco's Canadian membership conditions list the reward exclusions as gas stations, pharmacies, food courts, optical centres in Quebec, tobacco, services (including auto services), membership fees, deposits and taxes, and bullion isn't named. Check your receipt and card statement after the first purchase.
A gold purchase can be the largest on your card all year, so check your credit limit first; see the card's limits and fees.
Do you pay tax on gold bought at Costco in Canada?
Not GST/HST, if it's investment grade. The Canada Revenue Agency treats a bar, coin or wafer of gold or platinum refined to at least 99.5%, or silver to 99.9%, as a financial instrument, so its sale is generally exempt; coins must be issued by a government. The bars and Maple Leaf coins Costco sells are 99.99% gold.
When you sell for more than you paid, the gain is generally a capital gain, and half of it is taxable: the federal government cancelled the proposed increase to two-thirds in March 2025. Keep your Costco receipt as proof of what you paid. Frequent buying and selling can be treated as business income instead; ask an accountant if that's you.
Where can you sell Costco gold?
Not at Costco: it doesn't buy back gold or silver. You sell to a bullion dealer, a bank that buys bullion, or another buyer. Dealers say they typically pay about 1% to 5% below spot for standard 1 oz bars and coins, and much less is common at pawn shops. Known brands such as PAMP, Valcambi and the Royal Canadian Mint sell most easily, so keep the bar in its sealed assay card and the coin in its sleeve.
